For me, sewing is all about the creative process. My interest and experience is with garment construction and working with a variety of fabrics. When confronted with challenges in construction (not enough fabric!!), it usually pushes me into exploring a new approach. Sewing is a process, not just a method to achieve a finished garment or other project. Adding a touch of the unexpected; dealing with a mistake (a.k.a. design modification), getting a great idea mid-way though...these are all just opportunities to create something unique and personal. Sewing is an adventure; enjoy the journey!

My strengths lie in the technical aspects of sewing. How to do things, what needles, threads, stabilizers, fabrics and other technology go together. I can run almost any type of machine, teach you software and “how to” do many different techniques. I love my computer and how it helps me with my sewing and embroidery. I have 2 mottos that are important in my sewing life:
1. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
2. If you’re going to do something, do it to the very best of your ability. There is no such thing as “good enough.”

I love to sew and I love to teach others to sew. It’s wonderful to see the light bulb go on when a student realizes that they can sew. I try to make it fun in the beginning so they will keep going and learn all the fundamentals. My mantra is “it’s not your daughter’s wedding dress”- which translates to-it’s only natural to make mistakes in the beginning-as you learn more and sew more the mistakes should become less and less. I stress to my students that even we - teachers- make mistakes and have to UNSEW. That is all part of the learning curve.
Susie Simpson
My name is Susie Simpson and I have lived in Reno since 1981. As a young child I sewed clothing for my dolls and later made clothes for myself and others. I have done upholstery, curtains, draperies, wedding gowns, purses, etc. If you can make it from fabric I have probably done it. The year I moved to Reno I made my first quilt from a pattern in an issue of Better Homes and Gardens. This quilt still hangs in my home today and the quilting experience has become a lovely part of my life. I give most of my quilts away; why not share? I spent six years as a hospice volunteer and currently volunteer for the Nevada Humane Society. I use my quilt scraps to make little kitty quilts. I am also a member of the Truckee Meadows Quilters. I have been married, widowed and I remarried in 2006. I have two grown sons and three great cats. I am looking forward to sharing my quilting passion with you. Let’s get together, make quilts, learn from each other and have some fun.

I have been sewing for over half a century. Wow! My favorite is free motion embroidery. I must admit now I spend more time doing other forms of embroidery. I teach beginning sewing at TMCC as well as a variety of classes at Sew-n Such. I am active in American Sewing Guild and Californian Association of Machine Embroidery. My sewing is even more important to me now. As a recent widow I find it comforting to get into my sewing routine.
Margie Smith
My name is Margie Smith and I have been sewing for many, many years. My emphasis these days is on making quilts, wall hangings, table runners and any type of quilted item. I’m always looking for new quilting projects and can’t wait to teach new techniques. I’m excited to be part of a great, talented team that is so willing to share their knowledge with customers and students alike.
My ultimate passion is my longarm quilting service, www.bigpinequilts.com. I love to take customers inspiration and help finish their creations so that they can be placed into loving service in the homes of friends and family. I find special joy and love to helping with the finishing touches to their treasured projects. I know from experience the time, effort and love that goes into a quilt. I love to share the fun and satisfaction of quilting with new quilters. I look forward to meeting you here at Sew-n-Such and helping assist you in any way I can.
