Janet Inda - Janet is a native Nevadan and was born and reared on ranches in the northern half of Nevada. She taught herself to sew around the age of 8 or 9 years. Since some of the ranches had no electricity she got to “play” on Mom’s pedal machine and soon with a little effort could make things for herself. As interest for sewing grew in Janet, Mom would buy her some “real” material besides using only the flour sacks that were in abundance on the ranches.
Janet moved into high school and the family moved into Reno and here she was able to find books to help her make nice clothes for herself and a few nice things for the family too!
She became a school teacher and enjoyed her work and the kids until she had their daughter. Then she wanted to stay home with her! Because of a strong desire to be at home with her daughter, she started and operated several preschools for many years while keeping up with her sewing and taking a few classes to help master some tricks.
She sold the preschools after a time and began sewing for people out of her home. Her favorite functions were weddings...with her family’s “wants and needs” squeezed in between.
Janet has always loved to teach and has taught a lot of young girls over the years to sew and is now delighted to have the opportunity to teach at Sew-n-Such. Though recently hooked on quilting, Janet still says, “my first love was and will be sewing.”
Maureen Zimmerman - Maureen's introduction to Brazilian embroidery began in 1998 when she saw a sample of it right here at Sew-n-Such. Her interest was sparked by her desire to embellish doll clothes for the porcelain dolls that she was making.
During that year Maureen took several seminars and instructor training classes. She then went on to teach at Sew-n-Such from 1998-2002. She is back now to teach Reno Brazilian Embroidery with a choice of morning or evening classes. Check the calendar and call the store now to reserve your spot!
